Running a 'probe-scsi' at the obp can cause your system to hang unless you clear the CPU registers first - Here's how:

  1. Drop to the open boot prom
  2. Set the auto-boot? parameter to false:
  3. ok} setenv auto-boot? false

  4. Reboot the system using reset-all:
  5. ok} reset-all

  6. When the system stops at the ok prompt, you can safely probe:
  7. ok} probe-scsi-all

    /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/scsi@2
